Bernard Robertson

Bernard Robertson began consulting with the BlueChair Group upon his retirement from DaimlerChrysler Corporation in 2004. He also runs BIR1, LLC, an engineering consultancy specializing in transportation and energy matters.

During his 38 year career in the automotive industry, Bernard Robertson was elected an officer of Chrysler Corporation in February 1992. He was appointed Senior Vice President coincident with the merger of Chrysler Corp. and Daimler-Benz AG in November 1998, and was named Senior Vice President - Engineering Technologies and Regulatory Affairs in January 2001.

In his last position he led the Liberty and Technical Affairs Research group, Advanced Technology Management and FreedomCAR activities, and hybrid electric, battery electric, fuel cell and military vehicle development. In addition, he was responsible for Regulatory analysis and compliance, including Safety and Emissions, both mobile and stationary sources. He specialized for many years in powertrain, emissions, fuel and energy matters.

Bernard is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (UK), a Chartered Engineer (UK), and a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). He is also a member of National Business Aviation Association and operates two aircraft.

He served as a Board member of the FocusHOPE Greenfield Coalition, and as a member of the Operating Councils of USCAR and FreedomCAR. He was also a Steering Committee member of the MIT Mobility Consortium.

He is a member of the Boards of Directors of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Science Center and the WP Chrysler Museum.

Bernard holds a M.B.A. degree from Michigan State University, 1976 and a Masters Degree, Automotive Engineering, Chrysler Institute, 1967, and a Masters Degree, Mechanical Sciences, Cambridge University, England 1967. He holds both British and American citizenship.
